“Offload the Magento Platform and continuously import high volumes of orders into SAP ECC.”

Body & Fit, the leading European Sports Nutrition Brand based in The Netherlands, ships over a million orders every year. With their popular products and excellent customer service that Body & Fit provides, a reliable connection was needed between their commerce platform Magento and SAP ERP.

Alumio was chosen to process their Magento Orders to the SAP ECC connector. SAP ECC is SAP’s ERP Central Component (formerly known as SAP R/3) and it is one of the key assets of the SAP Business Suite.

With a highly successful Magento Commerce site, orders needed to be seamlessly synced into SAP ECC. Being able to apply to the high standards and processes of SAP, Alumio needed to temporarily store data and transform several aspects of the order data that comes from Magento to comply with the data requirements of SAP.

Solution partner MediaCT and SAP business consultants collaborated on this project, delivering a smooth and stable data route between both systems. With this integration, Body & Fit is able to provide up to date and accurate data for management and financial purposes, which will help them in realizing their future ambitions.

FAQ

Integration Platform-ipaas-slider-right
How did Body and Fit integrate Magento with SAP ECC using Alumio?

Body and Fit, a leading European sports nutrition brand shipping over a million orders annually, used Alumio to build a reliable connection between their Magento Commerce platform and SAP ECC. Alumio processes Magento orders into SAP ECC, temporarily storing and transforming order data to meet SAP's strict data requirements, enabling accurate management and financial data in SAP as e-commerce operations scale.

Why is integrating a high-volume Magento store with SAP ECC complex?

SAP ECC has strict data format requirements that differ significantly from how Magento represents order data. At high volumes (millions of orders per year), any transformation error can result in orders failing to process in SAP, causing financial reconciliation gaps. The integration must also handle the performance demands of continuous, high-volume order flow without overloading either platform, which requires temporary data storage and batching logic.

What role did Alumio play in offloading the Magento platform?

Alumio acted as an intermediary that temporarily stored and processed order data between Magento and SAP ECC, offloading the transformation and queuing work from the Magento platform itself. By handling data staging outside Magento, the integration avoided adding processing overhead to the commerce platform during peak order periods, keeping the storefront performant while high volumes of orders were continuously imported into SAP in the background.

What are the key requirements for a reliable Magento to SAP integration at scale?

A reliable Magento to SAP integration at scale requires: reliable data transformation handling all order variants, temporary storage to buffer data during SAP processing windows, error logging and retry mechanisms so failed records are visible and recoverable, and performance management to ensure high-volume order flows do not degrade either platform. An integration platform with dedicated SAP and Magento connectors, monitoring, and replay capability addresses all of these in a single governed environment.

What lessons from the Body and Fit Magento to SAP integration apply broadly?

The key lessons are: data transformation logic belongs in the integration layer, not in either connected system; temporary data storage is necessary for reliability at high volumes; and SAP's data requirements need to be understood and mapped before implementation, not discovered during go-live. Involving both SAP business consultants and integration specialists early prevents the data format surprises that cause most Magento-to-SAP integration failures.

How does Alumio handle the data transformation required for SAP ECC order import?

Alumio's Transformer components map and convert order data from Magento's structure into the format SAP ECC requires for import, including field mapping, value conversion, and validation. Temporary storage in Alumio buffers data between systems, ensuring a momentary SAP unavailability does not result in lost orders. Every transformation step is logged, providing a full audit trail from Magento order to SAP import confirmation.
